Germany: Greens propose gradual approach to AfD ban

Germany’s deeply unpopular, globalist Green Party, currently polling at around 10% nationally, is looking for new ways to eliminate its increasingly popular anti-globalist political adversary, the Alternative for Germany party.

Prominent members of the Green Party, led by former Minister Renate Künast, are advocating for a new strategy to combat the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. This comes as efforts by Saxon CDU MP Marco Wanderwitz to gather support for a formal ban on the AfD have stalled.

Wanderwitz has been working for over a year to collect signatures for a bipartisan application to initiate a ban procedure in parliament. Despite reportedly securing more than the required 37 signatures from Bundestag members, his attempts to submit the application have faced repeated delays.

The Green Party’s alternative approach aims to gradually address the issue rather than pursuing an outright ban. The party has proposed an alternative approach to banning the AfD. They suggest that Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) should first enlist legal experts to evaluate the feasibility of a ban. Concurrently, they are calling on the federal government to compile all relevant materials related to constitutional protection. Once this collection and assessment are complete, the Greens intend to pursue a formal application for an AfD ban.
