Police detained 281 people who participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in central Amsterdam, despite a ban on protests.
According to law enforcement, a group of hundreds of protesters gathered the previous evening in Dam Square in central Amsterdam. Police intervened and dispersed the demonstration, detaining 281 people; 265 of them were detained for refusing to comply with calls to disperse.
Additionally, eight individuals were arrested for possessing items that could potentially disrupt public order or cause bodily harm. Four more were detained for violence, vandalism, hooliganism, and disobedience to police orders.
Police also reported that they are investigating possible instances of violence against protesters by law enforcement. It was recently reported that pro-Palestinian activists once again defied Amsterdam’s protest ban, which was implemented after a wave of violence last week when Israeli football fans were attacked.
