U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in Peru on Thursday, November 14, to begin his visit to Latin America.
As reported by the agency, Biden will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru. This will be his final participation in the event as head of state. He is also expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
On Friday, November 15, Biden will participate in trilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
On board Air Force One, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that the trilateral meeting will focus on solidifying the progress made since their first meeting last year. According to him, the Biden administration is working to ensure that such meetings between the three countries become “a permanent feature of American policy.” He expressed optimism that this initiative would continue under Trump, citing bipartisan support, but acknowledged that it ultimately depends on the incoming administration.
Sullivan emphasized that White House officials are also conveying to Trump’s team that sensitive U.S.-China relations should remain “a top priority for the new administration.”
