Czech Republic faces growing exodus of skilled foreign workers due to low wages

Czechia is grappling with a significant outflow of foreign workers, particularly in sectors requiring specialized skills. Official statistics reveal that 25% of foreign workers leave the country within two years of arriving, a trend that is raising concerns.

The primary factors driving this exodus are low wages compared to the high cost of living and rental prices. Despite an increase in the number of foreign workers, which has more than doubled to approximately 827,600 since June 2017, Czechia is losing its competitive edge in attracting top talent.

Vít Rakušan, the Minister of the Interior, outlined plans to address the situation, which include:
– Allowing foreigners to renew their temporary and permanent residence permits online starting in 2026.
– Streamlining the process for foreign workers to secure employment.

Currently, the country’s economy is one of the sectors most in need of skilled labor, making the attraction of qualified workers a priority.
