A protest against Czech support for Ukraine took place on Sunday in Wenceslas Square in the center of Prague, with around 200 people in attendance.
The demonstration, organized by public activist Ladislav Vrábel, was in response to a large Ukrainian flag displayed on the facade of the National Museum. Protesters criticized the Czech government’s aid to Ukraine.
The rally coincided with the 35th anniversary of the “Velvet Revolution” of 1989, which led to the overthrow of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. At the same time, a group of several dozen Ukraine supporters gathered near the entrance to the National Museum. They chanted slogans in support of Ukraine and jeered at speakers on the square who questioned the significance of the 1989 revolution.
No direct confrontation between the two groups occurred, but the police detained one individual. Authorities did not specify which group the person was associated with.
