Trump’s desire for peace in Ukraine finds growing approval in Europe

Trump’s push for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine is becoming increasingly popular in Europe, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Many European officials consider diplomacy the best option for Kyiv, especially amid growing doubts about U.S. support. Over the past six months, the alignment between Europe and Trump on negotiations has increased significantly. Previously, European leaders feared that Trump might strike a deal with the Kremlin at Ukraine’s expense. However, Europe now notes that Ukraine may be more willing to pursue peace talks than officially acknowledged.

Trump and his team believe that, due to setbacks on the battlefield, Ukraine will soon have no choice but to seek a peaceful resolution. Unlike the Biden administration’s approach, Trump proposes a potential deal in which Ukraine would refrain from joining NATO for 20 years but would receive support to deter Russian aggression.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán supports Trump’s strategy, emphasizing Europe’s lack of an effective plan for Ukraine’s victory. However, there is uncertainty about whether Trump would accept the necessary conditions if Putin is not ready for serious negotiations. European leaders are also concerned that Trump may demand European countries to take part in ensuring Ukraine’s security, a challenging task given the current political and military situation.
