As the festive Advent season begins, Austria is stepping up security measures in response to the second-highest terror warning level, active since autumn 2023.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner announced a bolstered police presence, including foot patrols, undercover officers, and specialized units. “The goal is clear: a safe Advent for all Austrians,” Karner declared.
