Italian Foreign Minister on strikes on Russian territory: No change in weapon usage policy

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has reaffirmed that Italy’s position on the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine remains unchanged — they may only be used within Ukrainian territory.

Responding to reports that Washington has authorized Ukraine to use long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory, Tajani stated during the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels that Italy’s stance is consistent.

Our position on Ukraine’s use of weapons has not changed: they can only be used on Ukrainian territory, he emphasized.

Tajani also expressed support for the idea of a peace conference involving Russia, China, India, and Brazil, highlighting the importance of Beijing’s role in resolving the conflict.

“I hope Beijing can play a positive role in making Moscow understand that this senseless war must end,” he stated.
