Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has announced that she will challenge the results of the October 26 parliamentary elections in the Constitutional Court.
In response to the final protocol issued by the Central Election Commission, Zourabichvili declared that “the elections did not take place” and she would contest the results.
Speaking at a briefing on Monday, November 18, the President emphasized that during the elections, “guaranteed rights, as reflected in the Constitution of Georgia, and international principles and standards, outlined in more than one convention, were violated.”
She outlined two key violations: “The first is the secrecy of the vote, and the second is the general principle of voting, which was expressed in the disregard for the voting rights of Georgian emigrants,” also highlighting election falsifications and violations of the right to have complaints reviewed by an independent and fair court.
Zourabichvili underscored that both she and the opposition in Georgia do not recognize the election results. Opposition parties have also rejected the results, alleging election falsifications.
