Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, at the G20 summit, supported the statement by Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara, who linked the rise in violence against women to “illegal migration.”
These remarks have sparked sharp criticism from the opposition and human rights organizations. Meloni confirmed that “illegal migration affects the level of violence against women,” while Italian President Sergio Mattarella emphasized the importance of migrant integration and its positive impact on the economy.
In support of Valditara, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini stated that ISTAT data shows a link between migration and the increase in sexual crimes.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi announced plans to use electronic bracelets for monitoring criminals, noting that there have been 263 murders in the country this year, 96 of which were women.
