As a result of heavy snowfall and stormy winds in Finland, 75,000 customers remain without electricity; the severe weather is expected to continue through Thursday.
The storm, named Jari, hit the country on Wednesday evening and is forecast to persist into Thursday. In some areas, wind speeds reached up to 34 meters per second.
As of the morning of November 21, approximately 75,000 households were without power.
Residents have been warned about hazardous road conditions and disruptions to public transportation due to storm damage. On Wednesday evening, rail service was suspended on one line near Tampere after a train collided with a tree that had fallen onto the tracks. Similarly, train service was halted on the line between the eastern cities of Imatra and Parikkala due to downed trees.
Later in the morning, reports emerged of communication and mobile internet issues in various parts of the country caused by power outages. Operators are working to resolve the issues and have arranged backup power for communication towers that had been without electricity for an extended period, causing their batteries to drain.
