In southern Germany, on Friday, November 22, reports are coming in about “chaos on the roads” due to snowfall, which was compounded by numerous accidents.
On Thursday and Friday, heavy snow fell in the German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, immediately affecting road traffic. In the first few hours, the police registered over 200 incidents related to the bad weather.
On the A98 highway near the town of Lörrach, many vehicles got stuck in the snow and were forced to remain there overnight, with the road being closed for traffic. More than 150 cars were trapped. Some drivers abandoned their vehicles and found places to sleep nearby, while others stayed to wait for the situation to improve.
Traffic on certain sections of the A81 autobahn came to a near halt.
In the regions of Oberallgäu and Ostallgäu, numerous accidents occurred, with several people sustaining minor injuries.
Last year, in early December, a multi-day traffic collapse took place in Bavaria due to snowfall and icy roads, with Munich Airport also halting operations.
