Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala gave an interview in which he addressed the ongoing issue of the Czech Republic’s reliance on Russian gas. According to analysts, 94% of the gas supplied to the Czech Republic is of Russian origin.
The Prime Minister called the criticism of purchasing Russian gas “absurd.”
We are no longer dependent on Russian gas, although we were two years ago. Next year, we will not be dependent on Russian oil, although we were before, Fiala stated.
He explained the situation by saying that the Czech Republic now has the option to choose its gas suppliers, and traders opt for the cheaper option, which is Russian gas.
He emphasized that what matters is not the country of origin of the gas, but the ability to choose, which allows the country to buy gas at a more favorable price.
