Orbán promises not to enforce ICC arrest warrant for Israeli PM

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has pledged not to enforce the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Orbán stated that he would invite Netanyahu to Hungary and assured that the ICC warrant for arrest “will not be executed.” Speaking on state radio, the Hungarian leader called the arrest warrant for Netanyahu a “mistake.”

He also emphasized that the Israeli leader would be able to hold talks in Hungary “in complete safety.” Orbán criticized international institutions for lacking prudence when making decisions, as reported by Telex.

According to Orbán, the ICC’s decision is cynical and politically motivated, as it interferes in an ongoing conflict for political purposes. “We have no other choice; we must oppose this decision,” he concluded.

The day prior, it was revealed that the ICC had issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated that ICC arrest warrants for high-ranking Israeli officials are “binding” for EU member states.
