The sentencing of Donald Trump in a criminal case in New York, where he is accused of violating campaign finance laws by paying porn actress Stormy Daniels, has been postponed indefinitely.
Judge Juan Merchan decided to delay the announcement of the verdict in order to review additional materials related to Trump’s election as U.S. president and their impact on the possibility of his conviction.
Initially, the verdict was scheduled for November 26, after a jury found Trump guilty in May. However, it is currently unknown when the case will be resolved.
Trump’s lawyers are calling for the case to be dismissed, arguing that sitting presidents cannot be prosecuted on criminal charges. Meanwhile, the Manhattan district attorney’s office proposes delaying the trial until the end of Trump’s presidential term.
This case, known as the “porn money” case, involves allegations of falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence about a sexual encounter, which she claims occurred with Trump before the 2016 U.S. elections.
