Germany has significantly delayed the delivery of armored vehicles promised to Ukraine, with only 6.5% of the expected units having been delivered so far.
In April, BILD reported that Germany had been postponing the delivery of up to 400 heavy wheeled MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles, which were meant to be equipped with enhanced mine protection for Ukrainian forces.
These vehicles, manufactured by Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH (FFG) with funding from the German federal budget—totaling 315 million euros—were originally promised to Ukraine by the end of this year. However, the deliveries have faced repeated setbacks.
As of now, according to BILD, only 26 MRAP vehicles have been delivered to Ukraine. The German Ministry of Defense now estimates that the remaining vehicles will be delivered by 2025. In response to BILD’s inquiry, the German military cited delays due to “untimely approval from the US for the export of vehicle components” and pointed to the “exclusive responsibility of FFG” as the main factors behind the postponements.
