Nationwide bomb threats disrupt schools across Germany

On Sunday, bomb threats targeting schools across multiple federal states were sent by email. In response, some schools were searched overnight, while others continued lessons as normal. In Bremen, however, one school suspended operations.

The threats affected schools in cities like Erfurt, Leipzig, Hanover, and Bremen. In Bremen, authorities closed a school and deployed sniffer dogs, but no danger was found. Five schools in Erfurt received threats, but after police searches, the authorities decided there was no immediate risk, and classes went on as usual. Hanover also dismissed the threat, with schools there continuing operations without disruption.

The State Criminal Police Office confirmed that this was part of a nationwide campaign, with identical bomb threat emails sent to police stations across Germany. In Erfurt, three schools were searched overnight, but nothing suspicious was found, leading authorities to believe the threat was not serious.

Further threats have emerged in Brandenburg, impacting at least twelve schools. The police are now investigating the source of these emails
