Germany charges four suspected Hamas members

German federal prosecutors have charged four men suspected of being members of the terrorist organization Hamas, accusing them of preparing attacks and unlawfully storing weapons.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office stated that the accused were active foreign agents for Hamas over several years, holding key positions in the organization with direct ties to the leaders of its military wing.

Investigators revealed that in 2019, one of the accused set up an ammunition and firearms storage site in Bulgaria, later transferring the weapons from a Danish hideout to Germany.

“Between June and December 2023, all suspects repeatedly traveled from Berlin, relocating storage facilities while searching for a weapons cache in Poland. Ultimately, they failed to locate it,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Authorities allege that Hamas has been stockpiling weapons across Europe for potential attacks on Jewish institutions. Earlier reports suggested that the organization considered the Israeli Embassy in Berlin, the U.S. Air Base in Ramstein, and the area around Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport as possible targets.

The accused were arrested in December 2023 in Berlin and Rotterdam and have remained in custody since. The next step will be to determine whether their case proceeds to trial.
