On November 26, a fire broke out in the building of the National Theatre in Prague, causing damage to the Czech Republic amounting to 10 million Czech crowns (about $403,800).
This was reported by the spokesperson for the fire service, Vojtěch Sosna, according to Radio Prague International. According to Sosna, the fire started in the theatre’s technical rooms and spread through a shaft connecting the basement to the upper floors. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Thick smoke began to emerge from the building around 3:00 PM on Tuesday. One person suffered from smoke inhalation, but did not require hospitalization.
The theatre’s director, Jan Burian, stated that the fire did not affect the auditorium or the stage, and the quick response of the fire service prevented further damage to the building.
