A recent CBS/YouGov survey reveals that most Americans now oppose further military aid to Ukraine, signaling growing discontent with U.S. involvement in the conflict.
The poll found that 51% of Americans believe the U.S. should stop funding the war, while 49% still support continued assistance. This marks a notable shift since July, when Pew Research data showed a slim majority favoring aid.
The divide is stark along party lines: 72% of Democrats back ongoing support, compared to just 36% of Republicans. Ideologically, 74% of self-identified liberals favor aid, whereas 65% of conservatives stand opposed. Gender differences also emerge, with men evenly split and 52% of women opposing further military assistance.
Despite waning public approval, President Joe Biden remains undeterred, approving weapons shipments, including controversial landmines, and authorizing long-range missile strikes on Russian targets. Critics warn these moves risk escalating the conflict into a broader war.
Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump has made peace negotiations a key focus for his incoming administration. Trump’s team has accused Biden of fueling the conflict for profit, promising a shift in strategy aimed at de-escalation and diplomacy.
