Sweden Democrat MP Lars Wistedt, Deputy Chairman of Sweden’s Defense Committee and a member of Uppsala County’s parliament delegation, has passed away unexpectedly during a NATO delegation trip in Montreal, Canada.
He was found peacefully in his bed on Monday night, local time.
In a heartfelt internal email obtained by Aftonbladet, Sweden Democrats parliamentary group leader Linda Lindberg shared the news with colleagues:“Lars was happy and content last night, showing no signs of illness or concern. He was a rock—a wonderful friend and a highly competent colleague. His loss leaves an enormous void.”
Wistedt, elected to Parliament in 2022, held roles as an alternate member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and as part of NATO’s parliamentary assembly delegation. He also had a distinguished career as an officer and security manager before entering politics, including local involvement in Enköping.
Parliamentary President Andreas Norlén praised Wistedt’s dedication and professionalism:
“Lars Wistedt was a committed, knowledgeable, and respected member. My thoughts are with his loved ones and colleagues.”
Wistedt, who was 60, will be deeply missed by friends, family, and Sweden’s political community.
