John Alfred Tinniswood, the world’s oldest living man, has passed away at the age of 112. He died on Monday at his care home in Southport, surrounded by music and love, his family confirmed.
Tinniswood, a lifelong Liverpool football fan, became the world’s oldest living man in April 2024, following the death of Juan Vicente Pérez Mora at 114. Born on August 26, 1912, the same year the Titanic sank, he had been the UK’s oldest man since 2020.
A former military serviceman in World War II, he worked for Royal Mail and later as an accountant for Shell and BP. Tinniswood was also active in retirement, volunteering as a church elder and giving sermons. He had a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family described him as intelligent, brave and calm, with a talent for mathematics and conversation. Tinniswood, who had no explanation for his longevity, was a beloved figure at his care home, inspiring both staff and residents with his kindness and enthusiasm for life.
He had received annual birthday cards from the British monarch since turning 100.
