Thierry Baudet champions European identity and patriotism in El Salvador

Forum for Democracy leader Thierry Baudet is rallying for a revival of European pride and cultural traditions, calling patriotism an essential force in modern politics.

Speaking at the Patriots for Europe event in El Salvador, Baudet declared, “The next generation of patriots will continue this battle.”

Reflecting on the Netherlands’ historical adaptability as a small, trade-oriented nation, Baudet noted a shift in attitudes. “For the first time in 70 years, it’s acceptable to be proud of the Netherlands again, he remarked, stressing the importance of honoring the past to build a strong national identity.

Critique of Multiculturalism and Migration

A significant portion of Baudet’s speech addressed the challenges posed by mass migration and multiculturalism in Europe. Citing crime statistics and examples from across the continent, he argued that these issues are undeniable. “The dramatic consequences of multiculturalism and mass migration are visible in the facts and statistics,” Baudet said, crediting social media for exposing these realities to the public.

Reclaiming Europe’s Heritage

Baudet urged Europeans to rediscover their cultural and historical roots, condemning those who frame Europe’s past as solely one of guilt. “Our art, our cities, our history – it is all unique and of unparalleled beauty,” he asserted, advocating for practical measures like reintroducing children to European traditions, visiting museums, and teaching historical customs. He argued that embracing the past is crucial to securing Europe’s future.

Sovereignty Over Free Trade

The FVD leader criticized unchecked free trade, citing the plight of Dutch farmers forced out by cheaper foreign products. “Our farmers are pushed out of their businesses by products from countries such as Ukraine, produced under conditions that are impossible here, he lamented. Baudet called for greater scrutiny of trade policies that harm national interests, emphasizing that true sovereignty includes control over economic processes.

A Rising Tide of Patriotism

Baudet ended his address on a hopeful note, describing a “wave of patriotism” sweeping the globe. He predicted the conservative movement’s growth in the Netherlands and beyond, invoking Goethe’s words: When the time has come for an idea, it is unstoppable.”

Baudet’s call to action combines cultural pride, economic sovereignty, and historical awareness, championing a future rooted in Europe’s rich heritage and traditions.
