Two Ukrainians detained in Slovakia on suspicion of “hybrid attacks”

Slovak law enforcement has detained two Ukrainian citizens as part of an investigation into a wave of bomb threats and threats to critical infrastructure.

This was announced by Pavel Gašpar, head of the Slovak Information Service. According to Gašpar, the Ukrainians were detained on Tuesday, November 26, but further specific information about the case and the investigation is not yet available.

“We have documented, at least at the intelligence level, a long-term coordinated activity by a certain group of individuals that exhibits characteristics of sophisticated intelligence operations. This activity is linked to Slovakia’s security and has potential implications for it,” he said.

Slovak media earlier reported the detention of a Ukrainian in the city of Michalovce in eastern Slovakia, as well as a search conducted on another Ukrainian citizen in the nearby village of Vinné.

Gašpar’s statement came after a meeting of Slovakia’s Security Council, where the recent wave of hybrid attacks and bomb threats targeting schools and public buildings was discussed.

The head of the Slovak Information Service emphasized that Slovakia is the only country that has identified the individual potentially responsible for the bomb threats.

“Specific actions are being taken in this regard. I hope that we can present more details in the near future. The level of risk posed to security by these hybrid warfare methods is low,” he added.
