Georgian Interior Ministry: 107 people detained at protests

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported the detention of 107 protesters during demonstrations near the parliament building in Tbilisi.

According to the ministry, the detainees resisted police both verbally and physically. The statement noted that protesters on Rustaveli Avenue threw stones, fireworks, glass bottles, and metal objects at law enforcement officers. As a result, 10 Interior Ministry officers were injured, one of whom sustained burns and remains hospitalized.

A total of 107 people were detained under Articles 166 and 173 of Georgia’s Administrative Code (“petty hooliganism” and “disobedience to lawful police orders”).

The protests began following Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s announcement to suspend negotiations with the EU until the end of 2028. This statement came in the wake of a European Parliament resolution calling for non-recognition of the recent election results in Georgia.

On the evening of November 28, mass protests erupted outside the parliament building, escalating into clashes with police. Security forces used water cannons, tear gas, and physical force, including against journalists.
