In Berlin, 16 trucks were set on fire overnight – police do not rule out a political motive

Fires were recorded in different parts of the city, with the main concentration of incidents at the Cemex concrete production plant located in the Wedding district.

According to the police, several of the burned vehicles were located directly on the company’s premises, where other vehicles and part of the infrastructure were also damaged. Authorities are considering a political motive for the arson, as Cemex has been targeted by acts of vandalism in the past.

A similar incident occurred a year ago at the same company’s premises. At that time, the arson was linked to protests against road expansion, specifically the construction of highway sections, which sparked strong opposition from local residents and environmental activists. Over the course of several months, protests were held against what activists deemed environmentally harmful construction projects involving Cemex.

The company previously denied any involvement in environmental violations, asserting that its operations meet all sustainability standards. However, opponents of such projects argue that road expansion contributes to increased traffic emissions and worsens the quality of life in residential areas. The police are continuing their investigation and have not ruled out that the recent arson may be part of a larger protest movement.
