Slovak Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj-Eštok stated that actions indicative of potential preparations for a terrorist attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline had been observed.
“According to Slovak intelligence, an organized group operating not only in Slovakia but also in Hungary may be scouting areas near the Druzhba pipeline with a view to potentially carrying out a terrorist act,” the newspaper Magyar Nemzet quoted him as saying.
Šutaj-Eštok disclosed that authorities had detained an organized group, during which several drones were seized. He suggested that an attack on the Druzhba pipeline might have been in the works. Among those detained were Ukrainian nationals.
This development comes shortly after an oil leak was discovered in Poland along the Druzhba pipeline. The leak was located near the town of Pniewy in western Poland. The affected section of the pipeline, which transports oil from Russia to Germany, has been shut down.
