The United Kingdom is witnessing a significant increase in hostile activity within its cyberspace.
In 2024, the number of incidents investigated by authorities rose by 16% compared to the previous year, according to Richard Gorn, a representative of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
He noted that cyberattacks have become “more frequent, complex and intense.” Malicious actors are increasingly exploiting our reliance on technology to cause maximum damage and disruption, Gorn stated.
According to NCSC data, the agency handled 430 incidents in 2024, up from 371 the previous year. Among these:
347 cases involved data breaches — either intentional or unauthorized transfers of information from devices.
20 incidents were linked to ransomware attacks.
Experts also warn that hackers have begun leveraging artificial intelligence to create more sophisticated and effective cyberattacks.
