Trump chooses Paris for first overseas visit after election win

Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that his first international trip after winning the election will be to Paris, where he will attend the reopening of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Trump shared the news on Truth Social, stating that on Saturday, December 7, he will travel to the French capital to participate in the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame, which has been fully restored after the devastating fire five years ago.

“President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so. It will be a very special day for all!” Trump remarked.

Recently, French President Macron visited Notre-Dame, which is set to reopen to the public soon.

Notre-Dame Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was severely damaged in April 2019 by a fire that destroyed its roof and spire. For two years after the fire, efforts focused on debris removal and technical preparations for restoration.

In December 2023, the cathedral’s iconic spire was crowned with its traditional golden rooster. By early November 2024, the cathedral bells rang for the first time since the fire, marking a significant milestone in its restoration.
