Denmark’s November “weapons amnesty” results in record 35,000 weapons handed over

In Denmark, November’s “weapons amnesty” led to a record-breaking turnout, with 35,000 units of various weapons anonymously surrendered to the police—the highest amount ever recorded for such campaigns.

The Danish National Police announced that during this month-long initiative, individuals were allowed to turn in illegal weapons without facing any penalties. In total, over 35,500 units, including weapons and ammunition, were collected at police stations, marking a significant achievement for the program.

The police expressed their satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing that these weapons will not fall “into the wrong hands,” thereby boosting public safety.

The campaign also witnessed some unconventional methods of weapon submission. For example, in one city, a package containing hand grenades was left at the corner of a building, prompting the police to evacuate the station as a precaution.

The weapons turned in included automatic rifles, vintage firearms, pistols, grenades, and melee weapons. Notably, one person handed over 80 firearms and 140 kilograms of ammunition.
