EU approves €4.2 billion aid tranche for Ukraine amid reconstruction efforts

The European Union has approved a new tranche of macro-financial assistance for Ukraine totaling €4.2 billion. This payment is part of the Ukraine Facility program, which has a total budget of €50 billion aimed at supporting Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction, and modernization.

According to the EU Council’s press service, the funds will be delivered as grants and loans to bolster Ukraine’s macro-financial stability. The Council confirmed that Ukraine had met the required conditions and reforms to qualify for this installment of aid.

The Council emphasized the urgency of disbursing the funds, citing Ukraine’s pressing fiscal challenges. These funds align with Ukraine’s recovery and modernization plans, as well as its commitment to implementing reforms necessary for its EU accession process over the next four years.

In May 2024, the EU Council found Ukraine’s reform plan suitable for receiving up to €50 billion under the Ukraine Facility program, with the first tranche disbursed in August. The program, effective since March 1, 2024, ensures stable financing for Ukraine through 2027.
