Germany halts Syrian asylum decisions after Assad’s fall

Germany plans to temporarily halt asylum decisions for Syrian citizens after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad, according to a spokesperson from the Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

Currently, Germany hosts 974,136 Syrian nationals, per the Interior Ministry. Among them, 5,090 are recognized asylum seekers, while 321,444 hold refugee status.

Meanwhile, Austria has reportedly paused 7,300 pending Syrian asylum applications, signaling a broader shift in regional migration policies.
