Switzerland plans to revoke temporary protection for many Ukrainians.
The country intends to limit the issuance of “S permits” for Ukrainian citizens who lived in rear regions during the war. This was reported by Swissinfo.
The House of Representatives partially supported a Senate proposal that includes restrictions on granting temporary asylum permits to Ukrainians fleeing the war. The bill was passed with 96 votes in favor and 87 against.
According to the new rules, the granting of “S status” will depend on the regions in Ukraine where the Ukrainians lived before leaving the country.
Protection will only be granted to those living in disputed territories or areas occupied by Russia. Those who lived in areas under Ukrainian control without active combat will no longer be eligible for S status, the report states.
This change applies only to Ukrainians and does not extend to other asylum seekers.
