“USA today. The future has begun!” — wrote Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on X about his visit to Trump’s residence in Florida.
Shortly after his election, Trump had several calls with Orban to discuss Ukraine. Now, the Hungarian prime minister may embark on a new peace mission concerning the Ukrainian issue. This was reported by the Hungarian service of Radio Free Europe, citing sources.
“The new U.S. president asked the Hungarian prime minister for his opinion on several specific issues related to the Ukrainian settlement,” the publication states.
“It has never happened before that a U.S. president held negotiations with the Prime Minister of Hungary multiple times within a month,” the media adds.
According to reports, Trump was primarily interested in Orban’s views on the potential end of the war in Ukraine and the timeline for a settlement. Another source mentioned that the elected president wanted to know Orban’s assessment of Russia’s ability to continue the war and how resilient Putin’s government is to the challenges of war.
The publication recalls that the Hungarian prime minister previously stated that Russia has vastly more resources to continue the war compared to Ukraine, which aligns “closely with Trump’s ideas.”
According to a government source, as a result of these discussions, Orban may undertake another peace mission before the December EU summit. The purpose of this mission has not been disclosed, but experts interviewed by the publication speculate that the Hungarian prime minister may present proposals to the parties on behalf of Trump.
Following this, Hungary’s foreign minister held talks in Moscow and met with Waltz again. He then stated that the war in Ukraine could end soon.
