Trial begins in Netherlands for suspects in attacks on Israeli fans

On December 11, a trial began in the Netherlands for five individuals accused in connection with attacks on Israeli football fans that took place in Amsterdam last November.

The hearing is being held in the Amsterdam District Court, where five men, aged 19 to 32, appeared before a panel of three judges. Two additional defendants are scheduled to appear in court on December 12. All those involved face charges of public violence.

Among the first defendants is a 19-year-old resident of Monnickendam. He is accused of participating in acts of violence near the Johan Cruyff Arena, including shouting anti-Semitic slogans, throwing stones at police officers, spreading information promoting violence, and illegal possession of fireworks.

On November 7, mass unrest occurred in Amsterdam during a football match involving an Israeli team. Despite heightened security measures and a ban on pro-Palestinian protests near the stadium, numerous attacks on Israeli fans were reported after the game. Police arrested around 50 individuals in connection with the events, although these detentions occurred after the incidents.

In response to the events, the Dutch government allocated €4.5 million to combat anti-Semitism.
