An American’s DNA test result led to the solving of a murder committed 30 years ago

A woman from the United States decided to take a DNA test to learn more about her ancestry, but the results led to the discovery of a long-unsolved crime.

According to CNN, shortly after she submitted her samples for analysis, the police called her with shocking news.

The woman’s DNA matched materials from an investigation into the brutal murder of an infant that took place in 1997. Further investigation revealed that the perpetrator was her grandmother, who had been evading justice for nearly three decades.

The case involved the murder of a newborn whose body was found in an abandoned area of the city. Despite numerous attempts to solve the crime, the culprit remained unidentified. However, during the investigation, a connection was made to the woman who had taken the DNA test, revealing that she was the granddaughter of the suspect.

The police conducted further investigations, including familial relationship analysis, and soon established that the woman’s grandmother was not only a suspect but had also committed the crime. She had been on the run for years, hiding in various states under fake identities.

Now, the woman faces a potential life sentence if the charges are proven in court.
