Kosovo PM summoned for questioning by prosecutor’s office

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of partially recognized Kosovo has summoned Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Monday to provide testimony regarding a case that remains unclear. His supporters claim that this is a politically motivated move, as the country is preparing for elections.

According to Liridona Kozmaki, a spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office, Kurti is currently abroad, and a new date for the summons will be scheduled. She declined to provide further details on the nature of the case.

However, Kurti’s spokesperson, Perparim Kryeziu, revealed last week on Facebook that the prime minister had been called to testify in relation to Article 414 of the Criminal Code, which addresses offenses related to “abuse of official position or authority.”

Kryeziu accused the summons of being politically motivated, alleging it was an “attempt to influence the outcome of the 2025 elections.”

Kosovo’s parliamentary elections are set for February 9. These elections are expected to be a critical test for Kurti, whose left-wing ruling party, the “Self-Determination Movement,” secured a decisive victory in the 2021 elections.
