German Chancellor Olaf Scholz once again emphasized that as long as he leads the government, Berlin will not supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles or allow German soldiers to participate in the war.
He made this statement during an address to the Bundestag ahead of a no-confidence vote against his government. The chancellor affirmed Germany’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating that Germany remains the largest donor of aid to Ukraine in Europe.
“I want this to remain the case going forward,” Scholz said.
At the same time, Scholz reiterated his opposition to supplying German cruise missiles to Ukraine and his firm stance against German soldiers being involved in the conflict. “Not under my tenure as federal chancellor,” Scholz declared.
As reported, the Bundestag is voting on a no-confidence motion against Scholz’s government on Monday, a move that could pave the way for early elections scheduled for February 23.
It is also known that the Social Democratic Party, led by Scholz, may explicitly include in its election platform a commitment to refuse the provision of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
