Mike Waltz, a national security advisor appointed by Donald Trump, commented on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s proposal for a “Christmas truce” in Ukraine.
According to Waltz, the global community would welcome any steps toward halting the hostilities. Waltz expressed hope that the world would support measures to end the fighting in eastern Ukraine.
We need to stop the bloodshed. If a truce or a ceasefire becomes the first step, it deserves close consideration, he stated.
However, the advisor declined to discuss details of the potential Ukraine policy of a future Trump administration.
On December 11, Viktor Orban proposed implementing a Christmas truce and conducting a large-scale prisoner exchange. However, he claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the idea.
Meanwhile, Trump’s team is working on its own plan to end hostilities in Ukraine. The issue is being discussed with both the U.S. administration and Ukrainian representatives.
