Mike Waltz, nominated by Donald Trump as national security advisor, stated that his team is working on ideas to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
He emphasized that the goal is not just to suspend the conflict, but to end it permanently. When asked if Trump’s team plans to limit the use of American weapons or aid by Ukraine in the event of his victory, Waltz reminded of Trump’s words in an interview with Time: “A blank check is not a strategy.” He noted that the war is gradually taking the form of an “endless conflict.”
Waltz also shared that Trump’s team is actively discussing several key issues related to ending the war. He listed them:
What does success that aligns with our interests look like? How do we end the war? Who should be at the negotiation table? How do we bring all sides together for discussions, and what terms should be proposed?
These issues are being discussed by the team that Trump is assembling, and they are looking for solutions. Furthermore, Waltz pointed out that the world would be open to the idea of a “Christmas truce,” previously proposed by Viktor Orban, as a step toward halting the fighting in Ukraine.
Trump’s team continues to develop a plan to end the conflict and is holding talks with both the current U.S. administration and the Ukrainian side.
