Turkey and Portugal have signed an agreement to build two ships for the Portuguese Navy – the first such deal for a NATO and EU member country.
The contractor for building the ships for the Portuguese Navy is STM, a company that also builds corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy.
“STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc. will construct two supply and logistics replenishment ships for the Portuguese Navy in Turkey as the general contractor,” the TRT Haber channel reports.
The signing ceremony of the agreement took place in Lisbon. Thus, Turkey will for the first time export military ships to NATO and EU member countries.
