Slovakian PM Fico warns Ukraine against blocking Russian gas transit

Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has issued a stern warning to Ukraine, cautioning that blocking the transit of Russian gas through its territory could lead to serious consequences. Fico’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions over energy supplies in Europe.

“If Zelensky does not allow our gas, a serious conflict may arise,” Fico said, referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Slovakia relies on Russian gas flowing through Ukraine as part of its energy infrastructure, and any disruption could severely impact the country’s energy security.

Fico’s comments highlight the growing geopolitical tensions surrounding energy transit routes in Eastern Europe, with both Ukraine and Slovakia navigating delicate relationships with Russia amidst the ongoing war. The Slovakian government has yet to comment further on any potential measures in response to the situation.
