A car has crashed into a crowd at a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg at high speed.
Preliminary reports indicate that 11 people have died, and another 80 were injured. An eyewitness reported that after the incident, the Christmas market was crowded with ambulances and medical personnel. Government representative Matthias Schuppe stated that it was a terrorist act.
The driver, suspected of carrying out the attack, has been detained. Social media posts show the moment of his arrest and photos. Users claim that the suspect is a Syrian national.
According to a Magdeburg police spokesperson, it remains unclear whether the perpetrator acted alone. Police stated that the suspect drove “at least 400 meters through the Christmas market.”
