Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the financial support provided to Ukraine by Europe and the United States has reached €310 billion.
According to him, these funds could have been used to “work wonders” for the economies of European nations.
Europe and the United States have poured an astronomical sum of €310 billion into Ukraine. If this money had been directed toward developing our own economies, we could not only have strengthened them but fundamentally transformed them, Orbán emphasized during his speech.
Orbán pointed out that instead of investing in infrastructure, curbing inflation, and addressing energy security issues, European countries are channeling enormous resources into supporting the Ukrainian conflict. The Hungarian leader also highlighted that the substantial expenditures on Ukraine coincide with unprecedented inflation rates in the EU and an ongoing energy crisis. In his view, reducing spending on the conflict could help mitigate these challenges.
We are facing a crisis in energy markets, rising commodity prices, and millions of Europeans struggling with real hardships. Instead of focusing on solving these issues, we are funneling money into a war that is devastating both Ukraine and European unity, Orbán said.
Orbán reiterated Hungary’s position advocating for an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace talks. He believes that the current EU strategy poses risks not only for Ukraine but for Europe itself.
