The tragic incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, has resulted in five fatalities, with more than 200 people injured.
Reiner Haseloff, the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, confirmed that the death toll from the Friday evening attack at the market has increased to five.
Over 200 individuals were injured, with many suffering serious wounds. The Prime Minister vowed to ensure a thorough investigation into the attack.
Law enforcement sources told WDR and NDR that 41 people sustained severe injuries, 90 had moderate injuries, and over 80 others were lightly injured.
The incident occurred when a man drove his car into the Christmas market in Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. “We do not yet know the background of this crime; we are considering all possibilities,” a police spokesperson said. Authorities currently believe the attack was carried out by a lone perpetrator.
