Finland: Immigration fuels population growth

Finland’s population continues to grow, largely due to immigration, according to the Finnish Statistics Center.

Preliminary data from the Statistics Center shows that Finland’s population increased by nearly 32,700 people from January to November this year, reaching approximately 5,637,000 by the end of November.

Immigration played a key role, with the number of immigrants exceeding those leaving the country by about 45,000. At the same time, the number of births was nearly 13,000 fewer than the number of deaths.

However, the number of births showed a slight increase compared to last year, with 155 more children born from January to November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The total number of deaths was 52,800, which is 2,500 fewer than in 2023.
