Visitors evacuated from Eiffel Tower in Paris due to fire incident

The Eiffel Tower was evacuated on Tuesday, December 24, following a short circuit on the power rail of an elevator.

The technical issue occurred between the second and upper levels of the landmark, triggering the fire alarm at 10:50 a.m. “In line with established safety procedures,” SETE, the company managing the tower, evacuated visitors from the site. “No visitors were in danger,” SETE stated.

Firefighters, in consultation with the monument’s technical teams, are “conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.”

The Eiffel Tower will reopen “gradually” throughout the day, up to the second level.
