On December 24, the movement on one of the country’s key railway lines was paralyzed due to the suicide of the train driver.
According to information from the prosecutor’s office investigating the incident, the circumstances suggest that the driver committed suicide. In a statement, SNCF reported that the driver left the train’s controls and likely jumped out of the cabin. As a result, the system automatically activated the train’s braking mechanism, detecting the loss of control. Fortunately, no passengers were injured.
The incident led to the suspension of dozens of TGV trains, affecting around 3,000 passengers. The trains were rerouted onto alternative tracks not designed for high-speed travel. Some passengers arrived at their destination with a six-hour delay, late into the night.
