South Korea’s parliament has announced the impeachment of acting President Han Duck-soo

The National Assembly of South Korea has impeached Acting President Han Duck-soo, KBS reports.

This decision comes amid a severe political crisis that has led to instability at the highest levels of government. Following the impeachment, the duties of the head of state will temporarily be assumed by Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho.

According to analysts, the parliamentary decision stems from accusations of ineffective governance and breaches of state obligations. Key criticisms of Han

Duck-soo include:

Insufficient measures to strengthen national security,
Failures in economic policy amid the global economic downturn,
Weak leadership during political disagreements between the ruling party and the opposition.

Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho, who will temporarily lead the country, has already expressed his readiness to work toward stability and crisis resolution. However, experts believe his authority will remain limited until the political situation stabilizes.

The impeachment creates legal and political uncertainty in the country. The next step will be determining who will become the next president. Early elections are possible, but their organization may be complicated by disagreements between the ruling party and the opposition.
