A recent survey by Baltijos tyrimai reveals that three-quarters of Lithuania’s population places their trust in NATO.
Seventy-three percent of respondents expressed confidence in their security as members of the Alliance, while 21% stated they do not trust NATO. Six percent of those surveyed had no opinion on the matter.
The survey highlighted that NATO enjoys widespread support across various demographic and social groups in Lithuania. The level of trust and distrust in the Alliance has remained stable compared to a similar survey conducted two years ago.
The findings come amid ongoing discussions about NATO’s future, especially following comments by newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump. In early December, he suggested that he might consider withdrawing from the alliance if a significant number of member countries continue to spend less than 2% of their Gross Domestic Product on defense.
